The answer to this is very straightforward for me: I would always choose to avoid speaking to people wherever possible unless I feel comfortable around them.
I absolutely detest phone calls. I positively avoid social contact if at all possible. Yet, I am putting my thoughts and views out to the world on this site – not that I ever expect anyone to read it.
I don’t know where this all began. I am quite an introverted person. Mrs Pitts will tell you that, when we are out and about, I pretty much never speak to people – never order food, never interact – simply avoid it as much as I can.
Technology has been quite a saviour for me. I can shop online. I can email people. I can text them. Some people may think that is a poor substitute for social contact – but when I think about it, I only really speak to colleagues at work and friends at the various bands I am linked with. There could be times – if I were on my own – that I could go some time without even speaking if I wished.
Whether that would make me a different person, I don’t know. Whether my reluctance to get to know other people makes a difference at all… well, I don’t know that either.
