Today is September 11th, the anniversary of one of the most shocking events to have happened in my life. The terrorist attack in America twelve years ago is still something that sticks very clearly in my mind. It is our generation’s JFK – I’m sure everyone can remember where they were when the Twin Towers were hit by those planes. The links below show exactly just that – and I’ve only scratched the surface.
I had been at university that day, having only recently started, and I recall my dad coming into my room and telling me about it. Until that point, I hadn’t heard of the towers at all. I think both towers had been hit, certainly they were both still upright at that point. And then… well, like the rest of the world, I stopped whatever it was I was doing and just watched helplessly.
This evening we watched a documentary about it, one of the few times the footage has been shown here since the event happened. What still hits home is how fresh the images are, how shocking it still is now. Both myself and Mrs Pitts sat in silence watching it, reliving that day – she was at home, as she was working on supply at that point and hadn’t worked.
In a way, I think it’s healthy to be reminded of that day every now and then. Hearing the courageous stories of people trying to save lives, listening to the tales of loved ones recounting their final phone calls… all of those things are very powerful.

Thanks for that. I know that you guys got hit too. And my heart goes out to you Brits that got the shock of a lifetime. We are joined at the hip in this respect. I still can’t look at footage of that day without weeping. It was awful. Absolutely awful. What I can’t get out of my mind where those that jumped thinking they would have a better chance of survival. The new building is a solid, reminder of the American spirit (which we got from you Brits) and that building is the one shining example to our spirit and I feel proud we got back up again. Thanks again for remembering us this day.
