Of course, the main focus of the weekend was the Grand Prix, but this being us, an opportunity to grab few caches was also on our agenda. Here are the ones we found.
GC3WAYV: What a load of cobblers – this cache was in the car park of Northampton Town’s car park. The area was being used as part of the park and ride scheme for Silverstone, and it was just our luck that we were parked toughly 200 metres away from it. A nice easy find here.
GC35FT9: Cache Bingo Challenge – this find was less than 500 metres from our hotel room and so had to be grabbed. It involved completing a line on our difficulty/terrain rating grid (each cache is rated from 1-5 for difficulty and how hard it is to get to – there are 81 possible combinations as each can be given a half rating too from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5… 4.5, 5). Any line, vertical, horizontal or diagonal was possible to complete this task – we had 3 columns (terrains 1, 1.5 and 2) available to us as proof at that point.
Our qualifying caches are, all terrain 2:
- D1: GC3WAYV – What a load of cobblers
- D1.5: GC3FG2F – Spy Gear 7.5 , An “Evil” Cache
- D2: GC3D99V – Sherbet Fountain Bonus
- D2.5: GC3EJVW – The Mystery of the Hidden Cache
- D3: GC1ZXPR – It’s a GAS
- D3.5: GC3MME1 – The Hidden Past
- D4: GC1Y9P4 – Alphabet Soup- Yorkshire
- D4.5: GC1344G – SILENCE
- D5: GC2JETF – IEEE 802.11b :- “Bonus”
Anyway, that was completed in the morning of the Sunday before the race – we didn’t complete a cache on the Saturday.
On the journey home, we also found GC44195 – hidden just off the M1 by junction 26 – and GC490X1 – hidden by Dewsbury hospital. The main reason for doing these particular caches was to increase our stat for most distance travelled in one day from 74 miles to hopefully over 100 miles. Our furthest find south from home should also have adjusted once the stats have been updated at the end of the week.
The other major milestone is that we have now reached 800 caches (tonight’s was 801) found overall and also filled in three complete months in our calendar grid – April, May and June. The 1st of July in the image below was only filled tonight (by GC3Q6ZY).
