221: Which Olympic sports have you watched?

Yesterday I watched most of the men’s road cycle race. I didn’t have a clue what was going on, but neither did the commentators. No on screen information was given beyond gaps to groups, but it was never clear which rider was where.

I know that it can’t be like Formula One, where each participant has a GPS device and there are timing loops and beams all over the track. I get that, due to the nature of the race, spread across Brazil, that’s not possible. But surely someone somewhere could have worked out a system to provide some detail about the race.

When you have experts not knowing what is going on, you know there are problems.
