101: How does it feel to make a decision to have a day off work?

As far as I can remember, I haven’t had a single day off work for maybe three years. However, such is the swelling and pain from my wisdom tooth extraction that I had to make the decision to rest tomorrow instead of going to work. This is not a simple choice for me. I’ve just had two weeks off for Easter. My extraction isn’t the result of poor dental hygiene either – it was growing into the tooth next to it (I like to call it bullying).

Anyway, I’ve never had any work done in my mouth. Never had a filling. I certainly didn’t want this to happen. I wouldn’t recommend it for a first dental operation.

My dentist for this was amazing. He took the time to carefully explain what I needed to do and how I could help myself stay calm. He was good.

He did suggest I might be being optimistic about returning to work tomorrow though. And so, the swelling and pain have proved him correct.

I’m not very good at resting, but I will do my best so I can be back for Tuesday hopefully.
