Day 29: A Long Night

This evening was spent at Knottingley Silver Band rehearsing Gareth Wood’s Brass Triumphant for this weekend’s Brass At The Guild contest in Preston.

To say I had never seen any of the parts before this evening, I think I did a good job of it. Hopefully I can help the band to a decent result. Because of the other players’ ability, and the amount of work she has put in to certain sections of the piece, I am spilt between Percussion 2 and the Timpani part. It has been decided that I play glockenspiel, xylophone, cymbal, bass drum and tam tam up to the opening of the second movement, switching to timpani for the rest of the second movement. After that, I’m back on the tuned percussion (with four odd snare drum notes thrown on) for part three, then back to the timps for the final section.

There’s a lot of work to be done at the next rehearsal on Saturday. Currently, my head’s buzzing with it all but I have enjoyed my long, but fun, evening.
