304: When is a third place finish not a third place finish?

Firstly, this is a late post from yesterday simply because I didn’t watch the Mexico Grand Prix live, but after band. And then I went to bed.

As the race finished, we saw that Max Verstappen had been given a 5 second penalty, enough to drop him from third to fifth. We then had to wait for Sebastian Vettel to jog from the pit lane to the podium to receive his new third place trophy, and look thoroughly happy about it too!

In the dark of the autumn morning however, I wake to read that he, too, has received a penalty – one worth 10 seconds – dropping him to fifth now and promoting Verstappen’s teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, to third.

I will write about the whole race soon, but wanted to share that tale of woe from the end of the race with you now.
