58: What is it like to perform a piece of music on stage when seeing it for the first time?

When I say perform, I mean play.

When I say seeing it for the first time, I mean I’ve had an opportunity to see it and listen to the piece – but I had never played with this particular group of musicians before this evening.

It went fairly well, I thought.

Nervous doesn’t come close.

There were a couple of dodgy parts where I totally got the rhythm wrong – including the very end of the piece – but I’m relatively happy with my performance overall.

It heralds the start of a very busy week as I prepare to play with them at the contest on Sunday morning.
