All I’e done today is work. Believe it or not, I feel a little behind in things already after only two weeks of teaching. Things get a little more hectic this week as I have a student teacher working alongside me in their induction to the school – she will be teaching on and off with me throughout the rest of this academic year, so hitting the ground running and finding a good working relationship is vital.
I am making slow progress with a job that I really should have completed over the summer but couldn’t because I didn’t have the necessary information to do so. I have all I need now – I hope – so can devote a bit more time to finishing it off. I have one complete document out of 5, and one half-finished. I will get there. I want to have them complete by the end of the week.
We’re introducing a 15 minute spelling slot into our timetable from next week also, so I’ve planned 10 sessions just to see how they run.
I’m out of class on Tuesday morning, so time was spent organising my class’ work for then – I still need to come up with a solid plan for my time on Tuesday morning, which is designated time to work on the teaching of ICT in school.
Speaking of which, a friend from university got in touch with me about blogging with pupils this evening. My school has blogged all of last year – well in Key Stage 2 anyway – and it has gone down well. Time needs to made for it either in Literacy or ICT, but the work has been decent so far. I hope it becomes a little more embedded into people’s teaching this year, especially after the time is has taken to set up the 100 pupils involved!
Band was reasonable. I had a few positive comments about my drumming tonight, which is always nice. I offered to help arrange a piece of music as well which isn’t quite working yet – the basics are there, but it needs a little sparkle adding to it! It is an attempt at arranging David Bowie’s Heroes for brass band from a piano and vocal score. It is just too basic and quite removed from the song. The bass line’s rhythm is nothing like it should be and a few key features or simply missing.
Anyway, I must reset my head for a busy week at work.
