Day 140: A Quick Evening

I have no idea where the time has gone tonight. I’ve done little work, but not enough. The urge just isn’t there at the moment to work all the hours of the day. Still, I completed a couple of things that have been hanging over me and made progress on something for later in the week.

Work was OK today. Quite enjoyable, although there were some challenging moments. The culmination of the Robin Hood literacy unit is under way as the children have created storyboards for their own retelling of the story. We’ve looked at two books and three film versions of Robin Hood and the Silver Arrow, so I feel they are well placed to take some liberties with that tale now.

Maths with Year 6 is going to be a bit of a holding week up to half term with a few different investigations. Today’s involved trying to work out how many bricks would be required to rebuild the portakabin we currently work in. This involved measuring  the building – not always easy a challenge in itself – along with a brick from the main building (a ridiculously short 6cm high offering) then visualising the building in those bricks. A tricky little task but most managed it in the hour. Then I reminded them that they didn’t need bricks to fill the windows or doors. It’s funny the things they don’t think of…

The afternoon was a mix of things: a bit of finishing off, a bit of progression, a bit of box ticking. Spinning plates was key here.

Then home, and somehow, after what seems like no time at all, I’m sat writing this before bed.

Night.
