I had a follow up visit to the hospital today to complete an Exercise Tolerance Test. This is to see how my heart performs under stress in a controlled environment and is not fun. I’m not a complete layabout, but I’m not known for my passion for exercise either. The test was held in a room with a treadmill hooked up to a heart monitor and blood pressure machine. The idea is that you walk at pace and on an incline to see how you perform. Sporadically, you’ll be told your blood pressure will be taken and to relax your left arm. This in itself is not a problem but becomes an issue when trying to keep up with the treadmill. I managed to complete two changes of elevation and floor speed before having to give up – not through chest pain, but from struggling to breathe well and lactic acid build up in my legs. I’m not used to walking at around 3.5 miles an hour at a 12% incline. A 12% incline would be more of a crawl on a geocaching route – although we have been up far steeper hills just at our own pace. I’ll find the results out when I meet with the consultant in the future, however I don’t know when that will be.
Anyway, that was the highlight of the day. Other events were a long governor’s meeting where many ideas were thrashed out but not much decided, a reasonable maths lesson where revision of rotation was covered, and a literacy lesson based around the events within Spiderman Number 1 as we commence our research of super heroes.
