Sebastian Vettel equals Ayrton Senna’s victory tally
Sebastian Vettel equalled Ayrton Senna’s 41 career grand prix victories with this win in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The pair are now in joint third place on the all-time list of F1 race winners, behind Michael Schumacher on 91 and Alain Prost on 51.
41 victories:
- Vettel took 149 races to score his 41st win;
- Senna took 158 (of his 161 starts);
- Schumacher took his 41st win in his 140th start;
- Prost needed 174 races.
Hamilton scored his fifth pole position in a row which is a new personal best. No one in the field today has managed to take six or more: Senna, Schumacher, Alain Prost, Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell and Mika Hakkinen are the only drivers to have done so.
A bad start for Hamilton got worse when he ran across the gravel at turn six, falling to tenth place.
Jules Bianchi’s death the previous weekend cast a pall over proceedings at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Not only did all the F1 drivers find ways to commemorate him.
