Well, the lovely Val from Grange Moor tweaked my arrangement of Heroes this week. And while I was initially sceptical about her changes, it made the piece more playable for the group. It actually sounds like the song now. I would never have begun the project if it hadn’t been a specific request from an organisation we are playing for but I’m glad it is now in a place where I can leave it.
It has inspired me to complete some other things for band. I have had a few irons in the fire for a while; things I’ve begun but never finished. To name a few:
- I had a slight obsession with The Human League’s Don’t You Want Me a little while ago, and I was convinced that would work for band.
- The Divine Comedy’s Sticks And Stones has something about it which I simply adore. That and In Pursuit Of Happiness.
- Joby Talbot wrote a piece called While There’s Still Time which was used as closing title music for The League Of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse. That is a beautiful work and would be lovely for a band. I even got as far as writing most of the orchestral version out back in the day. I must find that as it is the most complete of any of these ideas.
- Finally, there was another piece – I can’t even recall the name – but again, I had the majority of that written out on my computer once.
Now, Heroes took a solid week of my time and that was every evening working without stopping from a MIDI version I found online. That’s the sticking point. I never have enough time to dedicate to a project to see it through. I never finish anyth…
I must make the time. Perhaps when the final part of my days aren’t dedicated to blogging each night.
