Today was another good day at work. I’m slowly ramping up the difficulty of the tasks I’m setting and so far the majority of the class are sticking with me. I had to pull a few people along today though! All will be well. I think the summer holiday hasn’t helped – the majority of the children won’t have done a huge amount of writing in the time, for instance.
One thing that stands out is the quality of presentation. I can’t remember a time when so many children were creating work of such a high standard at this time of the year. There is generally at least one child whose work is very hard to decipher, but not, it seems, with this cohort.
Tonight was the first rehearsal back with Morley & District Concert Band after our summer break – our busiest one ever! It didn’t really feel like we’d been away to be honest. It was a fairly quiet one overall – not much was played, but a lot of necessary chatter about the band. We’ve become fairly well known recently and in demand. My concern is that we are spreading ourselves too thinly and we are unable to move on as a result. I love playing out for people, but want to show off the band to their best too. It’s a hard compromise to make. I don’t know if we’ve got it right with four more concerts in the next four months. Time will tell.
