Geeky maths thing over with first, 233 is the middle of a triplet of sexy primes.
Boiling this down to its constituent parts;
- a prime number is any (natural or counting – whole) number greater than 1 that has no positive divisors other than 1 and itself. [1 is itself and so doesn’t apply before you start].
- a sexy prime number is where primes differ by 6. For example, the numbers 5 and 11 are both sexy primes, because they differ by 6.
- they are called sexy because of the Latin word for six: sex, as in sextuplets.
Since 227 and 239 are both prime, 233 is part of a sexy prime triplet.
It is possible to have sexy prime quintuplets (a run of 5 prime numbers, each with a difference of 6), but there are no larger groups. Challenge time, if you want a mention tomorrow, please comment on the post telling me the run of 5 sexy prime numbers…

So, back to today. Day 233 of this year brought a set of 6 geocaches, 40 lengths of the local pool (800 metres), a fair bit of work done and a general feeling of niceness.
Completing 40 lengths was a bit of a chore. I have painful shoulders at the moment – Mrs Pitts reckons it’s from conducting, I don’t know what it’s from – and I had to keep resting every so often in the pool. In previous visits, I had to rest because I was shattered, this time it was because I had little strength left. My speed dropped drastically from the beginning of the session.
The 6 geocaches were all very quick and easy finds. We choose them because of that reason – we needed the numbers for our now well established aim.
More preparation was done for the forthcoming school year. Still lots to do but the mental list of jobs is getting ever shorter.
See what I mean about a general nice feeling? And a pain in the shoulder?
