The final few weeks of term are here. It has been an interesting year so far. I’ve done huge amounts in school – it’s almost hard to remember everything. But so far it’s all been based around maths, twitter and ICT; my roles have developed a lot in those three areas.
Maths has seen me introduce a new calculation policy, train teaching staff, teaching assistants, and anyone who’ll listen in various parts of it and generally being regarded as a bit of a geek by all involved. Not that I mind that in any way.
Twitter is slowly becoming useful in school – the more followers we get, the better. It’s still in its early days as not a large number of parents use it. More schools do around us, so it’s been a useful communication tool in that sense. More work is needed.
ICT has seen me be a communicator between our technicians and the rest of the staff. The school’s website goes from strength to strength, getting lots of interest from many parents and other schools. I’m very proud of how that has gone.
My biggest issue is time. All these three things demand a lot of me. Nothing gets done quickly on any of those things. The website is much easier to update tan before, but it’s still all down to me, and mostly in my own time too. But again, as a communication tool, it’s become incredibly valuable.
Seven and a bit weeks still to go though and much will happen in this time. I must say, I’m quite looking forward to getting back into it again, although things – as always, it seems – are going to change once more… let’s see how tomorrow goes!
