The whole day was not spent on geocaching planning, rather on very dull and not worth writing about work.
The work was broken up with a lovely meal at The Marsh in Cleckheaton – always nice to get out and about to break the monotony.
Once enough work had been done, we decided to place all 14 of our caches onto geocaching.com in order to wheedle out any potential problems with cache placement ahead of actually putting them out in the wild. There are some fairly strict rules about cache placement – one being that they have to be more than 161 metres apart. We have already checked that the caches fit this rule using an online tool, but you never know about the accuracy of these things and some were quite tightly placed.
Submitting a cache is a fairly lengthy 5 step process. Since these caches all form part of a route, we were able to plan ahead and create the majority of information ahead of time. Still, copying and pasting the right information in the right places takes time! One hour and twenty minutes it took to provide the necessary detail for 14 caches – 13 traditional ones plus a bonus puzzle cache.
We are still waiting for a couple of physical cache containers to be delivered, but we are hoping that they will be all ready by the weekend of the 8th and 9th of June. The sitting back and watching the emails flood in as people find the caches is the best part – and since the route passes our house, we may even see some people as they go along the route!
