Yesterday, Japan suffered its seventh largest recorded earthquake off its east coast. Measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale, it also triggered a tsunami with 7 metre high waves. Nothing is yet clear about how many have been injured, killed or lost their homes. What is obvious for all to see is the vast devastation the earthquake and tsunami have caused, leaving huge swathes of the country in total disarray. The earthquake triggered fires and caused severe damage to buildings, leaving 4.4 million households without electricity.
