{"id":6,"date":"2004-09-08T00:00:02","date_gmt":"2004-09-08T00:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thomasjpitts.co.uk\/wp\/?p=6"},"modified":"2004-09-08T00:00:02","modified_gmt":"2004-09-08T00:00:02","slug":"september-linkage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomasjpitts.co.uk\/wordpress\/2004\/09\/08\/september-linkage\/","title":{"rendered":"September Linkage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I send a lot of these to people as I get them, so apologies if you&#8217;ve already seen them.<\/p>\n<p>1 &#8211; <a title=\"http:\/\/www.flourish.org\/upsidedownmap\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flourish.org\/upsidedownmap\/\" target=\"_blank\">Upside-down map<\/a> &#8211; <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Australia\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australia\">Australian<\/a> Stuart <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"McArthur Court\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/McArthur_Court\">McArthur<\/a> drew his first upside-down map in 1970. Why? Well, why should <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Europe\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Europe\">Europe<\/a> be at the top anyway? His teacher told him to re-do his assignment if he wanted to pass. 40 odd years later and he&#8217;s sold 350,000 copies of the buggers.<\/p>\n<p>2 &#8211; <a title=\"http:\/\/www.threetwoone.org\/diagrams\/wallstreetscandals.gif\" href=\"http:\/\/www.threetwoone.org\/diagrams\/wallstreetscandals.gif\" target=\"_blank\">Mad map<\/a> &#8211; It&#8217;s a special type of madness that tries to organise the entire history of US business scandals into an A4-sized diagram. The good thing about this is that that diagrams are normally used to communicate complex information more effectively than words. This diagram is a failure. But a joyous one.<\/p>\n<p>3 &#8211; <a title=\"http:\/\/www.donderevo.com\/games\/tennis.html\" href=\"http:\/\/www.donderevo.com\/games\/tennis.html\" target=\"_blank\">Simon and Garfunkel Tennis<\/a> &#8211; A <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Tennis\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tennis\">tennis<\/a> game where you get to play the umpire. An unusual approach to <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Adobe Flash\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adobe_Flash\">Flash<\/a> gaming but the simple absurdity made me grin!<\/p>\n<p>4 &#8211; <a title=\"http:\/\/j-walkblog.com\/blog\/docs\/platform.htm\" href=\"http:\/\/j-walkblog.com\/blog\/docs\/platform.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Platform World<\/a> &#8211; Lots of little stickmen, jumping and climbing around. Someone has tiled it to make a gigantic image of an epic stickman world. It&#8217;s pleasingly like something by <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Military Cross\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Military_Cross\">MC<\/a> Escher. <a href=\"http:\/\/j-walkblog.com\/blog\/docs\/platform2.htm\" target=\"_blank\">And another one&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>5 &#8211; <a title=\"http:\/\/badgas.co.uk\/chicken\/\" href=\"http:\/\/badgas.co.uk\/chicken\/\" target=\"_blank\">KFC-a-like Spotting<\/a> &#8211; <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"KFC\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/KFC\">KFC<\/a> sell <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Protein\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Protein\">protein<\/a> to poor people, but the real <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Poverty\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Poverty\">poverty stricken<\/a> people eat in KFC-a-like restaurants. You know, the lettering will be the same colours as KFC but the logo will be &#8220;Texan <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Fried chicken\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fried_chicken\">Fried Chicken<\/a>&#8221; or best of all, &#8220;<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Kent\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kent\">Kent<\/a>&#8216;s Tuck Inn Fried Chicken.&#8221; This site is compiling photos of all the variations.<\/p>\n<p>6 &#8211; <a title=\"http:\/\/www.thehob.co.uk\/northerner.asp\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thehob.co.uk\/northerner.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Are You Northern?<\/a> &#8211; A test so that you can tell if you&#8217;re northern. &#8220;It was based on an extremely large sample of eight friends,&#8221; the creator brags &#8220;And I can conclusively say that it is largely 64% correct.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\" style=\"margin-top: 10px; height: 15px;\"><a class=\"zemanta-pixie-a\" title=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zemanta.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-pixie-img\" style=\"border: none; float: right;\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/img.zemanta.com\/zemified_e.png?w=1165\" alt=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I send a lot of these to people as I get them, so apologies if you&#8217;ve already seen them. 1 &#8211; Upside-down map &#8211; Australian Stuart McArthur drew his first upside-down map in 1970.
