The New Standards<\/a> are an American<\/a> group built up of John Munson<\/a> (Trip Shakespeare<\/a> and Semisonic), Chan Poling<\/a> (The Suburbs<\/a>) and Steve Roehm (Billygoat, Electropolis).<\/p>\n

They are a trio of bass<\/a>, piano<\/a> and vibraphone – which sounds like it shouldn’t work, but my God it does!<\/p>\n

They’ve been around a good while, since 2005, and perform their favourite songs in their own style – a sort of jazzy, rock<\/a> soul thing.<\/p>\n

Their albums, The New Standards<\/em> and Rock and Roll<\/em>, are totally fabulous and well worth a listen to. Some tracks are available to hear on their site (linkage<\/a>). Stand outs are their arrangements of Hey Ya<\/a><\/em> by Outkast and Britney Spear’s Toxic<\/em>.<\/p>\n
