A little while ago, Mrs Pitts informed me that she wanted a hedgehog shaped birthday cake this year.<\/p>\n

Now, I am not the best baker in the world, and have never made a cake for her. The ones she makes for me are often spectacular, as you can see below, so the expectations from her were high…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

<\/center>Anyway, the hedgehog requirement fired up a little spark in my head of a half remembered thing from my dim and distant past. It was of a page from my Mum’s old recipe book, a handwritten thing of beauty which detailed exactly how she used to make that very thing.<\/p>\n

So, I paid a visit to my Dad’s house to retrieve it and he knew just where it was. I had Mum’s bible in my hand.<\/p>\n

Handily, she had used the alphabetical index system to create a page just for the Hedgehog Cake:<\/p>\n

And so it began. I gathered the ingredients together and followed it to the letter. I only had a small mishap along the way which Mrs Pitts had to resolve… but other than that all went well.<\/p>\n

<\/center>Decorating it was a slightly different matter. Mrs Pitts had a very clear idea of what she wanted having found a photo of one in her mind online for me to copy from. That wasn’t good as it raised the bar a little too high for my liking! Still, I was willing to give it a go.<\/p>\n
