Today was a normal day at school – although I was convinced it was Thursday for the majority of it (never a good things as I don’t teach Thursday afternoons…)<\/p>\n

The afternoon has been taken up with firework safety lessons both yesterday and today. This is one of those things that’s vial to get across but isn’t anywhere on a curriculum document. There is the Keeping Safe element of PSHCE, but that is very general. Anyway, they have been very receptive and I’m sure they will have gone away with the warnings ringing in their ears. If not, the video I use of an interview with Simon Weston<\/a> explaining his injuries and the alterations to his life over the last 30 years usually leaves a large impression on them. He suffered 48% burns, losing his eyelids and a few fingers too. I don’t use that to scare children but rather to show them the potential consequences of their actions – he puts it nicely when he says that his disfigurement is from war but children have a choice to make to avoid accidents.<\/p>\n

There are just two days left of teaching until the half term break – this has been an eight week term and a bit of a killer. Everyone is tired, all my colleagues and the kids.<\/p>\n

A break can’t come soon enough!<\/p>\n
