{"id":21811,"date":"2013-10-06T21:54:31","date_gmt":"2013-10-06T21:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thomasjpitts.co.uk\/wp\/?p=21811"},"modified":"2013-10-06T21:54:31","modified_gmt":"2013-10-06T21:54:31","slug":"day-279-heroes-other-stuff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomasjpitts.co.uk\/wordpress\/2013\/10\/06\/day-279-heroes-other-stuff\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 279: Heroes &#038; Other Stuff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, the lovely Val from <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Grange Moor\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grange_Moor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Grange Moor<\/a> tweaked my arrangement of Heroes this week. And while I was initially sceptical about her changes, it made the piece more playable for the group. It actually sounds like the song now. I would never have begun the project if it hadn&#8217;t been a specific request from an organisation we are playing for but I&#8217;m glad it is now in a place where I can leave it.<\/p>\n<p>It has inspired me to complete some other things for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Musical ensemble\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Musical_ensemble\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">band<\/a>. I have had a few irons in the fire for a while; things I&#8217;ve begun but never finished. To name a few:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I had a slight obsession with <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"The Human League\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Human_League\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">The Human League&#8217;s<\/a> <em><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Don't You Want Me\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Don%27t_You_Want_Me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Don&#8217;t You Want Me<\/a><\/em> a little while ago, and I was convinced that would work for band.<\/li>\n<li>The Divine Comedy&#8217;s <em>Sticks And Stones<\/em> has something about it which I simply adore. That and <em>In Pursuit Of Happiness<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Joby Talbot\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joby_Talbot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Joby Talbot<\/a> wrote a piece called <em>While There&#8217;s Still Time<\/em> which was used as closing title music for <em><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_League_of_Gentlemen%27s_Apocalypse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">The League Of Gentlemen&#8217;s Apocalypse<\/a><\/em>. That is a beautiful work and would be lovely for a band. I even got as far as writing most of the orchestral version out back in the day. I must find that as it is the most complete of any of these ideas.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, there was another piece &#8211; I can&#8217;t even recall the name &#8211; but again, I had the majority of that written out on my computer once.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now, <em>Heroes<\/em> took a solid week of my time and that was every evening working without stopping from a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"MIDI\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MIDI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">MIDI<\/a> version I found online. That&#8217;s the sticking point. I never have enough time to dedicate to a project to see it through. I never finish anyth&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I must make the time.
