Sure, there is a mix of cache types, some urban, some located in more rural (for Cleckheaton) settings.

Some of the logs from today where roughly 7 more people have completed the route, have been downright rude. We even received an email that made clear that it wasn’t a complaint, which makes damn sure that, because I’m British, I take it as a complaint. This particular person stated that one of our locations should not be a cache – well, we’ll be the judge of that, thank you.

Two caches this morning still hadn’t been found – numbers nine and ten.

GC4D8AJ: Log by tonycacher

***FTF***

Didn’t expect any FTFs here so this was a real bonus. Arrived at GZ and two horsewomen clopped up, one asked what I was doing and the other said “He’s geocaching” (She had also practiced the dark art to a lesser degree!)

SL TFTC

GC4D8AR: Log by RandomGoat

Joint **FTF** with HunkyHamster. Like everyone else we really struggled here. As the FTF was still up for grabs we spent a good while searching, longer than we should and as thorough as we could be (so we thought). We were sure we didn’t need to climb over anything, but we even resorted to that just in case it helped (it didn’t). We widened our search, then narrowed it again – my GPS kept bringing me back to the same area I think everyone else had searched before us – but it was no good. Oh dear! The difficulty rating wasn’t high, so we were confused. I was reading logs/descriptions on my smartphone for any sign of a clue when a thought struck me… I raised an eyebrow to HunkyHamster and asked him if it’s cheeky to email the CO for help when it hasn’t been found yet? Nothing ventured… I fired off a quick email. We carried on our search (I daren’t tell you what HunkyHamster found whilst searching but it definitely wasn’t a cache) and after a lengthy and sticky search we decided to press on with the series. Later on, as neared the bonus cache, we got a friendly email from the CO giving us a little bit of a nudge… hmmm, I’m quite sure we looked in that area already, but okay… after we finished the series we returned by car (in HunkyHamster’s spy-mobile) and pulled up opposite the pub. We strolled down and had another thorough root around… and after a minute bingo! There’s the little blighter!! Not that difficult at all really, I dunno why we all struggled. Phew. TFTC

So… all caches are found, even though a nudge was given to help people. If others had asked, I’d have given them the same information, however they used their initiative to at least take the trouble to enquire. Had I known that HunkyHamster was there too, I may have been even more generous with my additional hints as he has certainly helped us out in the past and we’ve enjoyed the many caches that he has sadly retired now.

Don’t get me wrong, there have been many things to make us smile today. A few people wrote some very positive logs with plenty to encourage us that these caches are a good addition to the geocaching community. There is still the acid test of close friends – once they have done the series, we can gain their honest opinion and know for certain that we’ve done well!

Related articles

<ul class="zemanta-article-ul zemanta-article-ul-image" style="margin: 0;
