The first day back at work was lovely in many ways. The morning with Year 6<\/a> worked very well, with lots going on and I can already see the potential for great things to happen over the next seven weeks. The afternoon with Year 5 was a different feel – I could certainly see that Miss Joyce had worked them hard – as they were a tired bunch. Maybe that’s just because it’s the first day back and enthusiasm to begin new topics wasn’t exactly in full flow. They need to get themselves into gear quickly as there is a huge amount to cover between now and the end of the Summer.<\/p>\n

In other news, the evening was a bit of a laid back affair, just trying to tie up some of the looser ends I had left after last week’s break. A similar thing will happen tomorrow evening too, no doubt as I keep remembering things that I never quite got around to completing.<\/p>\n

Grange Moor<\/a> have been asked to play at a Heroes themed event in October – it’s been on the cards for a while – and they really want the David Bowie<\/a> song of the same name. Now, there must be a reason why it hasn’t already been done – as in the melody and piece as a whole really isn’t lyrical enough to be worth arranging – but I found a version of it online to play around with. I may try to do that over a few nights this week too.<\/p>\n

154 is a significant number, but not in a geeky maths way (so it’s not getting a separate post)… It’s significant because that’s the number of sonnets that Shakespeare<\/a> wrote. All of the sonnets are pored over in huge detail but I don’t really get them. I find their structure too restrictive to really allow true expression – hence the reason that scholars and people who care have to go through them with infinitesimal detail in order to find some meaning. I am not a sonnet lover and am glad that research into numbers will no longer bring up a sonnet as something worth exploring instead. Honestly, you try googling facts about numbers up to 154 as I have done most days this year and you’re swamped with sonnet based facts… grrr.<\/p>\n
