That’s quite scary – I counted earlier that I have 9 sessions left with my maths group before they tackle the papers.

Next week is looking ridiculous. I’m on a course on Wednesday and we have two staff training days on Thursday and Friday. This all goes together with Bank Holiday Monday to give me 6 days away from my children in all at the time when I need it least. But still, I can’t complain. Lots will get caught up on during that time.

So, today. Things have been quite settled at work lately. I feel like lots of progress has been made recently and the metaphorical jigsaw pieces are all slotting into place. I don’t really want to go into details but my class aren’t well known for being easy to work with. I’m quite enjoying their enthusiasm to learn now – everything is going well.

Cover via Amazon

As an example, at the moment we’re studying Betsy Byars‘ The Midnight Fox – this is the third time I’ve used this novel as a stimulus with Year 5 children, it is well used higher up the school ladder as well in Year 8 or 9 too – and the work involves reading the whole novel in just over two weeks. This requires a great deal of planning and structure. I read chapters 11 and 12 to the children today and they were rapt. The detail they can remember from the story is amazing too.
