The main job for today was to completed the raised bed that we had started last weekend but realised we hadn’t the time or the appropriate tools to complete before rain began falling. Today, the forecast was for some beautiful sunshine – which we got. This meant that we could get out and sort it nicely.

The supporting corner posts needed pilot holes drilling in them, and we had borrow my father-in-law’s drill to do so. However, he provided just two drill bits and we had little luck getting one out that was already in. We quickly decided that a trip to the local B&Q was necessary as it was easier to have our own than keep borrowing from our families.

While there, we also noticed that we could just get a set of drill bits to fit the Black & Decker drilldriver that I bought last week. Selection made (a 50 piece set of Black & Decker bits for less than £15), we set off back to continue.

This made the job a bit of a breeze. We had a little trouble with one corner that wouldn’t sit nicely, but other than that we managed to get it done in a few hours.

This all meant that I was a little behind when it came to watching qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix (see my report here). Not to worry though as it had been recorded and I was able to avoid any spoilers fairly easily. There were no massive dramas in the session and I think the race may not live up to the thrillers we have so far this year – it’s all down to strategy and tires and I hope that we see a decent Grand Prix as the circuit hasn’t really created good racing in the past.

Once we had watched this, we decided to have a trip out to get some compost for the raised beds.

While we were out, we needed to get a cache in order to fill the final gap in the calendar for April. Luckily, one was published yesterday close to the garden centre we wanted to visit. (GC47YNP) Our calendar is below. I haven’t mentioned this before, but we now don’t need to cache until June. A couple of years ago we began a 50 day streak of finding at least one cache a day, which began on 21st April 2011 and went through to 6th June 2011. Note that we have made a conscious effort to fill up the calendar since the start of this year. There is a long way to go still though!

Our geocaching calendar so far (click to enlarge)

Back to the raised beds. A brief calculation had told me that we’d need around 1000 litres of fertiliser to fill it up completely. Now getting that amount isn’t easy without it being delivered. We don’t have a wheelbarrow, or a shovel, and any kind of delivery would be dumped at the front of our house rather than the back where we need it. So we thought that a few trips to a local garden centre might be the best option. When we arrived there, we found that compost had many varieties, but also many deals. We went for 150 litres of one type and 180 litres of another, so that the bed is, in theory, a third full. Mrs Pitts did the filling of the bed while I played with a much neglected Kit!

After that, we just watched a bit of TV. The BBC highlights of qualifying, Doctor Who, The Cube… those kind of things. Not a single bit of work done.

Loved it!

In other news, I’d like to wish fellow 365 blogger Dave Woollin and his fiancée Elle a happy wedding day.
