Section 32 of the act describes the sanctions and potential offences&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, this got me thinking about other\u00a0unnecessary\u00a0laws.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is illegal to enter the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Palace of Westminster\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Palace_of_Westminster\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Houses of Parliament<\/a> wearing a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Armour\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Armour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">suit of armour<\/a> (but only if you&#8217;re an <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Member of Parliament\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Member_of_Parliament\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">MP<\/a>. This is from the 1313 Statute Forbidding Bearing Of Armour and hasn&#8217;t been repealed.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>was<\/strong> illegal not to carry out at least two hours of longbow practice a week. Sort of. T&gt;he <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Unlawful Games Act 1541\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unlawful_Games_Act_1541\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Unlawful Games Act 1541<\/a> required every Englishman between the ages of 17 and 60 (with various exemptions) to keep a longbow and regularly practise archery. However, it was repealed by the\u00a0Betting and Gaming Act 1960.<\/li>\n<li>It is illegal to be drunk on licensed premises. Section 12 of the\u00a0<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Licensing Act 1872\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Licensing_Act_1872\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Licensing Act 1872<\/a>&#8230; and under section 44 of the\u00a0<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Metropolitan Police Act 1839\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Metropolitan_Police_Act_1839\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Metropolitan Police Act 1839<\/a>, it is an offence for a publican to permit <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Alcohol intoxication\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alcohol_intoxication\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">drunkenness<\/a> or <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Disorderly conduct\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Disorderly_conduct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">disorderly conduct<\/a> on the premises. Again, under the\u00a0<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Licensing Act 2003\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Licensing_Act_2003\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Licensing Act 2003<\/a>, it is an offence to sell alcohol to a person who is drunk, or to obtain alcohol for consumption by a person who is drunk.<\/li>\n<li>It is illegal to carry a plank along a pavement. Under section 54 of the\u00a0Metropolitan Police Act 1839, which also outlaws flying kites, playing annoying games, and sliding on ice or snow in the street.<\/li>\n<li>It is illegal to beat or shake any carpet or rug in any street. However, beating or shaking a doormat is allowed before 8am. Section 28 of the\u00a0<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Town Police Clauses Act 1847\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Town_Police_Clauses_Act_1847\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Town Police Clauses Act 1847<\/a>\u00a0also outlaws keeping a pigsty in front of your house, slaughtering animals in the street, stringing a washing line across the street, singing profane or obscene songs or ballads in the street and playing knock down ginger.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of these are mine.
