Back to work today. Not that it was a surprise to be, but it was a significant event. The place looked beautiful – icicles<\/a> everywhere which were promptly knocked down. One, which I saved to share with my class was 40cm long and 6cm in diameter at the break off point. Both I and they thought that was impressive. Had this been an educational blog, I may have requested information about icicles in your area. Feel free to share if you wish though!<\/p>\n

The main event of the evening, was an invitation to join Knottingley Silver Band<\/a> at the Preston Guild Hall on February 3rd for\u00a0Brass at the Guild on percussion. Despite the short lead time, which was actually a factor in deciding to do it, I’m quite looking forward to it. Knottingley will be one of ten bends in their section playing on the day. It will only be my third contest and I can’t wait to play for a reason again. Grange Moor<\/a> don’t contest any more, which is fine by me. The whole point of playing there is for fun and contesting can sap that enjoyment out of it. Rehearsing the same piece each time we meet for two hours at a time is hard work. I can’t see that this will happen here – my first rehearsal of the piece is only 6 days before the contest, rather than 3 months…<\/p>\n

Aside from that, and watching the second part of the Great Comic Relief Bake Off<\/em> – and hoping that my efforts over the weekend aren’t as laughable (these are to celebrate my birthday with colleagues at school and not Comic Relief<\/em>).<\/p>\n
