{"id":171,"date":"2007-08-12T18:15:20","date_gmt":"2007-08-12T18:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thomasjpitts.co.uk\/wp\/?p=171"},"modified":"2007-08-12T18:15:20","modified_gmt":"2007-08-12T18:15:20","slug":"harry-potter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thomasjpitts.co.uk\/wordpress\/2007\/08\/12\/harry-potter\/","title":{"rendered":"Harry Potter"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"The Sun (newspaper)\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Sun_%28newspaper%29\">The Sun<\/a> has reported how a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Primary school\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Primary_school\">primary school<\/a> head ruined the new <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Harry Potter (character)\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_%28character%29\">Harry Potter<\/a> book for pupils by reading out the final page on the last day of term.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What I find funny about this next bit, and I really shouldn&#8217;t, is the fact that the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>local authority<\/strong><\/span> felt they had to comment.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mrs Banfield read the climactic extract from <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_and_the_Deathly_Hallows\">Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows<\/a> the final book in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"J. K. Rowling\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/J._K._Rowling\">JK Rowling<\/a>&#8216;s massively popular series to more than 400 kids at St Johns C of E schools end of term assembly in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Midsomer Norton\" rel=\"geolocation\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=51.2842,-2.4817&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=51.2842,-2.4817 (Midsomer%20Norton)&amp;t=h\">Midsomer Norton<\/a>, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Somerset\" rel=\"geolocation\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=51.18,-3.0&amp;spn=1.0,1.0&amp;q=51.18,-3.0 (Somerset)&amp;t=h\">Somerset<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>The much-anticipated ending has been the subject of debate among millions of fans. Mrs Banfield has not commented but a spokesman for the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Local Education Authority\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Local_Education_Authority\">local education authority<\/a> said: &#8220;The school was saying goodbye to the children and staff who were leaving. A very small passage was carefully chosen to reflect the theme of saying goodbye. The school felt this reading would not spoil the children&#8217;s enjoyment of the book.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Also, who cares? If it was an appropriately touching section of the book, and I am speaking as someone who has no interest in old Harry at all &#8211; read no books, seen no <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Harry Potter (film series)\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter_%28film_series%29\">films<\/a>, care not one bit &#8211; then why not just read the passage regardless of where it was from and <strong>not tell anyone<\/strong>? Perhaps it was insensitive to read it, perhaps it was just a silly error of judgement.
