The <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Penny (British decimal coin)\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Penny_%28British_decimal_coin%29\">1p<\/a>, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Two pence (British decimal coin)\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Two_pence_%28British_decimal_coin%29\">2p<\/a>, 5p, 10p, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Twenty pence (British decimal coin)\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Twenty_pence_%28British_decimal_coin%29\">20p<\/a> and 50p are all to be redesigned.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is your chance to influence how the coinage looks, your chance to make your mark on the history of the coinage and your chance to <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Coin\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coin\">change<\/a> the face of what millions of people carry in their pockets and purses everyday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Coins are more than just a means of purchasing. The designs that appear on them are <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Work of art\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Work_of_art\">works of art<\/a> in their own right. They are symbols of the nation and now you have an opportunity to have a hand in creating those symbols for a new generation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Royal Mint want a series of six designs and even suggest a number of themes to help you along the way.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Looking to heraldic devices is one approach that could be adopted. <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Heraldry\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heraldry\">Heraldry<\/a> has long been used as a way of symbolising Britain and heraldic devices have quite naturally featured on <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Coins of the pound sterling\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coins_of_the_pound_sterling\">British coins<\/a>. You might also like to consider other ways of representing Britain which could include the flora and fauna of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Country\" rel=\"wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Country\">country<\/a>, its institutions, its geographic features or its achievements whether social, political or cultural.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;d love to know someone who takes part!
